The McFarland Youth Center is a community-based organization committed to middle level youth, families, and the community by providing a safe recreational and educational environment. With adult-supervised, youth oriented, planned programming, the McFarland Youth Center promotes positive relationships through building developmental assets.
Along with support from the MYC Board of Directors, the MYC Director is responsible for the overall vision, direction and operation of the McFarland Youth Center. The ideal director will have a background in an applicable field (education, counseling, social work, etc.) and exhibit initiative, a high sense of ownership for the center and the young people it serves. They must be a positive role model and good listener, able to focus on identifying and quantifying youth outcomes and working with community agencies and schools to ensure that the resources needed are available. Representative tasks include: working with other staff to plan & implement programming; serving as the chief operating officer and MYC representative to the center’s Advisory Board.
CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
Program planning, implementation and evaluation; program initiatives that promote positive youth development
Able to identify and build assets in youth; connects youth to community and community to youth
Behavior management & conflict resolution skills; ability to work with large or small groups of youth
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
Administrative reporting
Organized; keen sense of detail; initiative/follow-through
High ownership of processes, responsibilities, youth outcomes
Communication skills, written and oral
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Optimistic; sense of humor; good at building relationships; able to build sense of community
Computer skills – including Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.
Mature attitude, creativity, resourcefulness, and a positive role model for youth
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Background in a relevant field: Education, Counselling, Social Work, etc.
Experience working with middle-school aged youth in a similar capacity
Experience/skills in recreation, arts, volunteer and community service
COMPENSATION:
Hours: Position is 35 hours per week (negotiable) and includes the daily times when the Center’s middle school students are present, approximately 3PM to 6PM school year; 1PM to 5PM in the summer (other hours are flexible)
Wages: Starting $25/hr (up to $28/hr depending on experience level); set merit-based increases in future years
Paid-Time-Off (PTO): 10 PTO Days for Year 1 (increasing in future years); 8 PTO HolidaysHealth Insurance Stipend: $250/monthAnnual Retention Bonus: $1,000 (paid on anniversary date)
